Kart Mania - 2025
Kart Mania 1 - A mixed weekend for the project at Silverstone last weekend - Busy on Saturday and deathly quiet on Sunday. Regrettably little in the way of donations or sales, but plenty of networking and quite a few interesting leads that could prove fruitful. It was good to get the encouragement and project validation from the people that mattered. It was also great to put faces to names from the project’s earlier donators and supporters. I’ll keep the faith and continue to put up the good fight for the cause!
Kart Mania 2 - I feel compelled to give a big shout out to a kart racer on the stand next to me. 89 year old Roy Collins and his immaculate 1960 Aero kart Villiers - which he has owned and raced since new. Even in 2025 - he tells me he has driven it in several demonstrations, including at Shennington. Such is his continuing interest and enthusiasm that Roy spent Sunday reading my book for junior novice drivers "Racing Rules Explained" from cover to cover.
At the end of the exhibition, we even saw him wheeling his own kart/trolley out to the car park - all by himself.
A superb kart from yesteryear, a life long passion, an avid enthusiast and still driving at 89 - surely this is what historic karting is all about!
ROY - I WAS AND REMAIN IN AWE OF YOU.....TOTAL RESPECT AND ADMIRATION!
