The Project’s Archive Facilities
-
Welcome
Please come in and take a look around - to see what’s already been set up to achieve the project’s goals.
-
The Building
The project is based in a repurposed outbuilding [previously a garage] at my home, on a redeveloped former farm in the scenic Scottish Borders.
-
The Office
When not in the archive - I can be found in my home-office… phoning, texting, and emailing trying to promote the project and solicit donations.
-
Professional Layout - Racks 1 & 2
The building has been completely redeveloped internally to provide professional standard storage racking, work benches and preservation quality storage boxes.
-
Professional Layout - Racks 3 & 4
Karting and Kart and Superkart magazines and other karting publications are segregated and further sub-divided depending on condition and the number of copies held of each issue. A primary set of best condition magazines have been set aside specifically for the scanning phases of the project.
-
Rack 5 - Incoming!
This rack provides storage for the collection of Scottish Clubman / MotorScot magazines, karting books and other non ‘Karting’ and ‘Kart and Superkart’ publications as well as temporary storage for incoming deliveries.
-
Scanning Station
Or it will be - when we purchase the scanners we need! A dedicated laptop and screen are already in place so that the ultra-high-quality scanning needed can be undertaken efficiently, accurately.
-
Scanners - The Missing Link
The only two pieces of equipment now needed to push-start this project are the scanners.
One scanner is for digitising the magazines and a special HD scanner for high quality reproduction of photographs. Can you help?
-
60 Years of Karting
The building provides a comfortable working environment - adorned with some artwork, posters, photos, and signs from the period -memories of karting’s halcyon days!
-
Work Bench
Inspection, Packing, Goods In, and Goods Out functions are all performed here. “A place for everything and everything in its place!”
-
Safekeeping
It’s taken quite a few years to acquire both of these magazine collections alongwith the assets, IP and copyright to the titles themselves, so accordingly they are now being stored securely and safely in conservation standard airtight boxes with desiccant in a carefully controlled environment.
-
Conservation & Preservation
Each magazine title has been catalogued, conserved / preserved, and stored in year order. All racking has been allocated bin locations and boxes are labeled for quick and easy identification.
-
Not Just Magazines....
Although the focus is primarily on the digitisation and presentation of the magazines - a number of karting books, programmes and posters have also been acquired along the way and these will be added to the archival website to provide further context in due course.
-
Heating Runs on CASTROL 'R'
Being in the Scottish Borders, heating the archive building in the depths of winter is paramount. In keeping with the project’s theme, the heating runs on CASTROL R of course!
-
Signs of the Times
Fond and vivid memories are evoked of past karting events and circuits by a collection of replica posters and signage. [Signs featuring all Scottish tracks and many tracks south of the Border are also available to buy - JUST ASK!]
